Membership in groups allows for networking and jobs that may not be posted on other web sites. Find out what organizations exist for your career field and look at annual costs. A small membership fee may pay off big in the future.
2. Attend conventions in your chosen field. Conventions cost money and this cost can be cut a small amount by being a member of an organization. At most conventions, there are hundreds of booths set up by different companies. Often they display their products and services, but it also serves as a recruiting tool. Say you majored in biology or a field similar to it, attending a conference like BIO is a great way to market your skills to hundreds of potential employers.
3. Post your resume on job sites like Monster or Career Builder. These job search engines allow employers to look at your information and contact you if they are interested. Beware of the scam jobs that also try to contact you via these job sites. It is helpful to see if job sites in your chosen career have places to post your resume for people to see in the area you are interested in seeking a job.
4. Go through an employment agency. Employment agencies are great for finding temporary work if you need it, but often the short term jobs they find could lead to full time employment if the company you work for likes how you work. Even if the job seems temporary, work hard and work well so that you receive good references. Even a temporary job can lead to a full time position, so do not burn bridges by being a poor worker.
It may take a while, but jobs are out there. Keep trying and applying. Try different things to improve your chances of getting noticed for a job. It never hurts to drop in or call places that you have applied. Make sure you look professional and remember, looking for a job is a full time job as well.
