Probably the three most commonly used commands are "come", "sit" and "stay". But how do you train your dog to understand these commands? Well here you go...Dog training-3 great commands to use.
Come
Probably the best time to teach this command is when your dog is hungry. Here's what to do. Place a long lead on your dog. Stand near the dogs food bowl, and in a firm voice say "come (dogs name)". Make sure that you stand still and don't move your hands or body. You want the dog to learn to respond to your voice rather than your movements". If your dog comes, praise him with "good boy" and give him a food reward. If he doesn't come when called, repeat the call "come" while pulling on the lead. Repeat the procedure till the dog comes. When he comes, praise him with "good boy" and give him a food reward. Repeat this process each feed time till the dog can respond without the lead. You will soon have your dog responding enthusiastically to your "come" command.
Sit
The next command to teach is the "sit" command. Repeat the steps in the previous tip. When the dog approaches, say "sit" in a firm voice. The dog will not know what this means yet, so while keeping the lead tight, push down on your dogs rear whilst saying "sit". This should encourage the dog to sit. Then give a small food reward and "good boy". Repeat this step until your dog learns to obey the command. The dog should soon learn the "sit" command with the lead on. Once your dog learns the command try it without the lead.
Stay
The "stay" command is an important one for your dog to learn, as it gives you control over the movement of your dog. To avoid distractions for your dog, it's best to teach this in a quiet location.
With your dog sitting, show it some food in your hand, and say "stay". Gradually move away from your dog whilst repeating the "stay" command. If your dog moves towards you, take it back to it's original position and repeat the "sit" command. Once your dog is sitting, repeat the "stay" command and move away from your dog. Keep repeating the process until the dog obeys the "stay" command. When it obeys, reward it with a "good boy" and a small food reward. This may take a bit of practice, but with patience you will succeed.
I hope that these tips have been helpful
