Do you know how to stop your bad habits? You can do it, one step at a time. Take smoking for example. You already have places you can't smoke, but most of them were put upon you by others, such as restaurants, shopping areas, etc. Then, you may have restrictions put on you by your family. You can't smoke in the house, the car, whatever.
Well, why not take it a step farther? Just one step. It could be you can't smoke if the temperature is under a certain degree. Or you can only smoke the cigarette down one inch -- or whatever restriction you want to put on it. Keep that restriction for a week minimum. It can be longer, but not shorter.
Then, when that time is up, shorten the restriction -- from one inch to three quarters of an inch, and repeat the process.
If it's for eating, have your usual dessert, but with an inch off of it. Have your normal number of pizza slices, but only half slices. Have your usual number of sodas, but only 1/2 glasses.
If it's for bad habits, like you pick your fingernails or whatever. Start to pick your fingernails, then smile and put your hands down. Start out by doing that every other time, then after a certain amount of time (Let's say one day?), do it every time.
If it's swearing, say the D swear word, then say it, but add dang, dang, dang. If it's the H swear word, then say it, but add heck, heck, heck. If it's the F swear word, say it - if you have to - then add funny, funny, funny or freakin', freakin', freakin'. This will bring the fact that you are swearing to your brain, plus giving it a direction to go next time. Soon, you'll end up saying the alternative you have given yourself, instead of the swear word.
These are just a few ways, but they are powerful. You might have said to yourself, "I can't stop smoking!", but now you can say to yourself, "I can't stop smoking, but I can start stopping smoking!"
You might have said to yourself, "I can't stop eating!", but now you can say to yourself, "I can't stop eating, but I can eat less!"
You might have said to yourself, "I can't stop swearing!", but now you can say to yourself, "I can't stop swearing, but I can start stopping swearing!"
You can start to stop any bad habit. Start stopping now!
