Apparently, it is no longer politically correct for the US Citizens to honor those who died in the Japanese Attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 without mentioning that the US was partly to blame. You see, as the world gets closer together everyone wants us to forget that surprise attack on our nation.

Not long ago, a prolific writer was chastised for even mentioning the attack on Pearl Harbor and how the US finally won the decisive Naval Battles in the South Pacific that followed. The writer was attacked on the grounds that telling the truth about the Japanese attack demonizes Japan. His reply to the criticism was indeed blunt, as he stated:

Please be aware first off that the United States of America is the greatest nation ever created in the history of mankind. If you deny that for any reason, there is no sense in discussing this any further. Demonizing the Japanese, no, I would not do that, but you know they attacked us first. That is the history, no need on re-writing it to serve some move to create a world collective."

Perhaps, you have been on the tour of the USS Arizona in Hawaii? The Japanese to this day call the Pearl Harbor attack one of the greatest surprise attacks in human history. Many Americans, just do not see it that way. You see, if you were hit over the head by one of your friends with a sludge hammer, would you not consider that unacceptable?

Today, Japan is a friend of the US of course, but that does not negate the attack at Pearl Harbor, nor should that prevent us from honoring our fallen heroes of Pearl Harbor on that day. Indeed, we should not have unkind words for the Japanese, but there is nothing wrong with studying or remembering history to prevent being doomed from a repeat. Nor is that anything wrong with asking Americans to never forget that day.

It has taken a long time to mend the fence between Japan and the US; up until recently the Japanese businessmen would do whatever they could to stick it to US businessmen in business deals, that is merely the reality, so let's not forget that either. If you have never run a business or dealt with Japanese business people in negotiation well into the 90s then you wouldn't know that. And, they'd have owned much of our nation's real estate had the real estate market not crashed in the early 90s.

We should probably also remember the patent issues as Japan grew their economic base, as well as the Deming Years with regards to automobile manufacturing. Apparently, we have forgotten that past also, and will continue to see repeats with China in that regard.

"Those who do not study their history are doomed to repeat."

Those who accept a false or re-written history will also pay the price. We should never forget Pearl Harbor Day. It is part of our history and we should not brush it off or pretend it never happened. Because it did happen and US Service Men died.

Now, regardless of the fact that Karl von Clausewitz and his philosophy rightfully explain the use of pre-emption, we must never forget we were attacked on December 7, 1941. "A day that will live in Infamy," or someone once said.
