The town of Forres, Moray, Scotland lies on the Moray coast in the north region of the country. It is only 30 miles from the city of Inverness, toward the east. It also enjoys a current population of around 9, 000 people and benefits from a wealth of historic and geographical attractions both in and around the town and the region in general.

Forres is a multiple winner of the "Scotland in Bloom" floral competition, among other notable flower-related awards and contests. It lies near to the River Findhorn, which is one of the longest rivers in the country. This waterway ends its journey through Scotland by emptying into the Moray Firth. Forres sits between the river's floodplain and Cluny Hill, which is located on the south side of the areas bordering the town.

There is much historical support for the thesis that Forres is actually "Varris, " which is shown on maps made by the Roman mathematician and geographer (among his other intellectual pursuits) Ptolemy nearly 2, 000 years ago. A castle was also built on the site in 900, and Forres achieved royal burgh status in 1140. A royal burgh was an entity created by the Scottish kings to encourage trade among towns and villages.

Forres also plays host to Sueno's Stone, which a very large carved rock edifice most likely created by the Picts, who were a confederation of tribes first formed before the Roman occupation of the British Isles and who lasted until around the 10th century. It is thought to have been carved to commemorate a battle against Norse invaders. Brodie Castle, which was first built in 1567, also lies close to the town.

The council area of Moray, one of 32 such entities in Scotland and the region in which Forres lies, has a population of around 87, 000 people. It is located in the northeastern part of the country and has a significant coastline on the Moray Firth, which has nearly 500 miles of mostly-cliff coastline, making it a place of scenic and wild beauty in many parts.
