There are many surf spots in Oahu. First of all, let us know about the Haleiwa Harbor. The tide out of the Haleiwa Harbor is ruthless, therefore, take care that you are in good paddling shape. A split-peak with a better right, it splits from two feet to twelve, and can either be the most enjoyable or the most dangerous place to surf. Besides, both Tiger and Great Whites are always seen prowling beside the outer reefs, so if the tides are not scary enough, one must be careful about them. Though a very rowdy and wild wintertime break, it is known as one of the more reliable and steady breaks on the North Shore.

Waimea Bay is the ultimate big-wave sports ground. The Bay is very calm like a lake, but in winters when the northwest swells are very forceful, it presents a totally different scene. The tides begin at 12-15 feet and reach upward up to 30-foot before they start closing out. The Waimea lifeguards are always alert and busy throughout the winter fishing surfers out of the shore break. Even the tourists, who are not surfing, can sit and enjoy watching the power of the Pacific.

Though Pipeline is the deadliest and one of the most crowded surf spots, it is crown jewel of the North Shore. It is located on a series of shallow reefs and is as risky as it is amazingly impressive. Many surfers have lost their lives here as it is known as the world's most fatal wave.

Sunset Beach is a typical Hawaiian big wave located at the eastern-most end of the North Shore. Before surfers began surfing in Waimea Bay in the late 1950s, Sunset Beach was the high point for heavy-water surfers. With a wide-open and extensive range, it certainly needs a larger board and experience of many years to surf here. Selecting the right take-off point can be a challenge and the surfers must be in top paddling shape. If one wants to know why some surfers have devoted their lives to surfing the place, just go down on the huge West Peak. We will talk about some more surf spots in Oahu in the next article.
