The 89th Miss America Pageant took place on 30 January found its winner: Miss Caressa Cameron from Virginia was crowned the Miss America by last year's winner Katie Stam.

The winner of this year beauty contest was a 22-year-old woman from Virginia named Caressa Cameron who is now a broadcast journalism student of Virginia Commonweath University. Since 2005, Caressa was the first black Miss America. She shares that she hopes to become a news anchor in the future.

The new winner told that her inspiration of competing in Miss America Pageants arose when Miss 2003 Nancy Redd visited her school. She was only 14 at that time. The visit affected on the young woman greatly when she decided to attend in a school musical to have chance in the arts, drama and other areas.

Cameron especially has singing ability. On January 27, 2010, she won a $ 2,000 scholarship in winning the Preliminary Talent competition in vocal pop. With the victory in Miss America, next year Caressa will carry her crown and travel to raise money for charity.

On Saturday night, Cameron had a perfect performance when she sang "Listen" of Beyonce and answered persuasively when asked about childhood obesity. She gave parents useful advice to limit the obesity rate among children. With this onstage presentation, she was titled the Miss America 2010 and awarded $ 50,000 scholarship on Saturday night.

Cameron won the Miss Virginia title on June 28, 2009 having previously competed for that title three times. The new successor shared that she wanted to compete in the Miss America Pageant to raise money and AIDS awareness among people. In 2007, Cameron was appreciated by Congress for her devotion of bringing instant-result HIV testing to Virginia.

Being asked about marriage, Cameron said that marriage to her meant "between a man and a woman". However, Miss 2010 thought that gay marriage also should not be banned.

Caressa Cemeron is 5 foot 4 inches, and wears a size 7 shoe. She is daughter of a background researcher for the government and a contractor.

I am a classmate of Caressa Cameron. She is such a beautiful and talented woman who has a good voice and contributed a lot to the society, especially AIDS issue. I want to congratulate her on her victory. She performed well on Saturday night.
